DIY Thankful Branch

We recently took a walk outside and discovered a bunch of beautiful Red, Orange and Brown fallen leaves on the ground. My first thought was "What can I use these for?", So I searched out Pinterest and found out two different things I wanted to do. The first one I will share with you today and another tomorrow. Today, is a Thankful branch. It is really easy to make and looks fantastic!

Here is what you need:
long branch
leaves {these need to be fresh as possible, we picked ours right off a tree}
Decorative ribbon
Gold glitter spray
White or Black marker pen

How to Preserve Leaves with Glycerin

  • Glycerin (We found ours in the first-aid section of our local drug store.)
  • Water
  • Two baking dishes, containers, or trays that can stack together
  • Fall leaves
1. Place your leaves in one of your containers. (We used a large plastic storage container.)
2. Mix 1 part glycerin and 2 parts water.
3. Pour the mixture over the leaves.
4. Stack the second container on top of the first container so that it keeps the leaves submerged in the mixture.

Aren't they just beautiful?

ready to paint

Next you lay them out to dry, you do this for two days. Then I placed mine in a book so the edges wouldn't curl up. Now your ready to spray the tips with Gold glitter, let them dry and write your thankful words on. Now they are ready to tie onto a branch!

Its simple, fun and beautiful!

Creamy Carrot Soup

Hello. I am super excited to share a great soup with you today, its a homemade carrot soup. This soup was on my list, as a way to use a nice amount of our garden carrots. Picture above, is of my son & I. We had a community garden over this summer and finally harvested it all last month. We pulled tons of Organic GMO free carrots, these guys were huge and sweet & beautiful. We pulled bundles & bundles, so I had to find a way to use a majority of them. I found this recipe HERE on Pinterest and it was the BEST carrot soup I have ever had! Do yourself a favor and buy Organic carrots or use hem fresh from your garden like we did and it makes extra special.

We weighed out our carrots, we had some really beefy ones so didnt require a ton.

Creamy Organic Carrot Soup

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 pounds peeled carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces
1 large onion, thinly sliced {I left this out, can't have onion}
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 sprig of fresh thyme {straight from my garden}
1 sprig of fresh rosemary
32 ounces chicken broth
2 strips precooked bacon {you gotta do this}
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce

1. Place oil in large pot over medium heat. Add carrots, onions, garlic, thyme and rosemary. Cook for 15 minutes, until carrots are fork tender. Remove herb sprigs and transfer carrots and vegetables to blender. Add chicken broth and continue to puree. Transfer to large saucepan over medium heat and add bacon strips. Season with salt, pepper and hot sauce. Simmer until ready to serve.
Makes 6 servings

We had leftovers and I froze several bags!

Fall Pictures // Cemetery

Photography, is another one of my great passions and loves. I enjoy preserving that moment in life and being able to look back on and recall the emotions and feelings of that day. I'm lucky to come from a family line that appreciates it as well, it runs in our blood.

I wanted to take some Fall photos, while the colors were still amazing here in Colorado.
There is a very large beautifully kept cemetery right down the road from us in Denver, we headed there and took some photos.

Wanted to share them with you all.

My son Caleb, is the one pictured here. He is very photogenic and enjoys these sessions with mom

This grave, was the most creative and beautiful one in this cemetery. A enclosed tomb, with beautiful doors and a "mini yard" that has beautiful Aspen trees in the yard. Add the dropped leaves and it was almost a dream vision. If I had a choice THIS is how I want to be at rest. Just sayin'

My Sons 9th Birthday // Glow In The Dark Golf

Caleb woke up to gifts in the hallway, kicking the day off right

birthday breakfast pancakes!

My son turned 9, wow time flies! I was excited to decorate for this years theme, we decided to hold a glow in the dark golf party at our local mall. Everything is UV lights and glow in the dark. I started my research early on, I wanted everything to glow! I found a really cool idea to make your cupcakes glow in the dark, with tonic water and I tried twice both times did not work. Every time I would take the batches of cupcakes up to the mall and party room too see if it worked. Then the third time, I tried jello with tonic water, this way also did not work. So all the ideas you see on Pinterest, for me did not work. I went with a two tier neon layered golf cake and then I strung white lights through the bottom of the cake stand and it light up the cake just perfect!

For the tables I purchased all clear plates, forks, cups, pitchers and then placed glow sticks on the bottoms and taped glow sticks to the forks. I had a glow sticks set of around 200, we had to setup a hour before the party just to assemble everything! I also found glow stick balloons at walmart, those did not work so good if your wondering. Then I found the brightest colored neon shirt at Walmart for Caleb to wear. We all had a great time, lots of work but totally worth it.

we bought UV light active hair spray to make his hair glow Blue

custom cake, was so yummy & looked amazing

 End of the day, all his gifts! Score

a hike // Golden Gate State Park, CO

I turned 35, it kinda crept up on me this year. I had a good day, decided to hike on my birthday. It was after this hike I decided I wanted to get into hiking more. Once Winter blows through and Spring makes its appearance I will be going on more of these. This time I went to Golden, Colorado and hiked a trail at Golden Gate State Park. It was a Medium to hard hike, nothing like hanging trail; but still a challenge. I decided to get some gear soon to help me make these treks, like a hiking stick, a camel back pack with water and protein bars etc. This hike I wasn't prepared like I felt I should have been. I hiked for hours, in the vast wilderness of the mountains. No ones was around, it was silent except for the rustling of the aspen leaves and few un-know sounds. I would pass someone maybe every 30 minutes if I was lucky. I walked with rocks in the hands in case, something decided to make its appearance. Just what I needed. At one point I just stopped and plopped down on a rock and drank it all in, I love the mountains.

I had to keep remembering every bend and log away the settings in my head, I need a compass.

There were so many parts of the woods that were just pitch Black, you couldn't see far into them
