Homemade lemonade

There is something to be said about a cold glass of lemonade on a very hot summer day, it quenches
 your thirst and hits the right spot!! Making your own taste so much better then store bought, plus its rewarding knowing your labor put out such a tasty treat. Caleb helped me with this one, he enjoyed juicing the lemons!

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 cups water
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ cup lemon juice (fresh-squeezed is preferred, but bottled works in a pinch!)
  1. Combine the sugar and water in a pot. Bring the mixture to a boil and stir well to ensure all of the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from the mixture from the heat and chill it for at least an hour in the refrigerator.
  2. Once the mixture has cooled, combine the sugar-water mixture with a pinch of salt and lemon juice in a pitcher. Serve with ice.

Trail walk & Bug Catching

We love the outdoors, soon enough it will be cold and snowy again and not able to get out doors for 5 months straight. During Spring time I bought a year round state park pass, it got used a lot this summer. One of the things we like to do at the state park is go trail walking. Its beautiful and Caleb gets to bring his bug sucker and suck up bugs and spit them into a bug dome you can carry. This trip we found some very interesting beetles.

Caleb and I were walking on a path and noticed a bird that was gulping down something from the ground. We got closer to find out it can un-covered a beetle nest and not just any but officially the largest beetles I have ever seen!! We screamed and squealed and caught one.

How to Crawfish, Fun for the family

I'm almost I positive I posted this last year as well, but it was so fun that I wanted to share again. Its loved by child and adults alike here and summer time is the perfect time to go crawfishing! We don't catch ours to eat them, we let them all go. Its the thrill of the hunt for us.

I grew up in the country deep in the south, one of the things I did as a kid to entertain myself was to go near the streams near the lake and flip over rocks to catch these critters. I would bring them home and then release them in the small creek in front of our house. Ever see a mama crawfish with all her young hanging on her tummy, coolest thing ever. So I'm not totally girly, I have a little tom boy in me and that's just fine.

what you'll need to crawfish:

sticks {we find ours laying on the ground, just something sturdy}
the cheapest hotdogs you can find {got ours at the dollar tree}
nets {got ours at the dollar tree}
containers to hold the crawfish
your camera {trust me you'll want to take pictures}

How to catch them:

Crawfish are drawn to the smell of raw hotdogs, literally only takes us 10 minutes and they start coming out of their hiding places and going for the food.

You take a hotdog and cut it in half or even smaller and tie it on a piece of string and then tie that string on your fishing stick. That simple. Dangle your hotdogs into a place you think they may like and wait for their tugging. You can feel them eating it. Sometimes you can't just pull the string up very slow, that the key to keep them on the stick and pull them out of the water and into your container to look at. Its fun to watch them in more shallow waters, you can see them going for it and actually watch them, so yea do that find some clear'ish water. Is that a word?

So you can pick these critters up, do so by the back end of them. Don't get near their claws unless you want to get pinched and I imagine that don't feel so good. I managed to go my entire childhood without getting pinched.

That's it, hours go by so fast when you do this and its so fun and cheap. We have a special place we do this every year since my son was a toddler. Its a tradition and I'm glad we get to spend that time together. We found a bridge with a little water that dosent run all the way through during the dry months so we fish in the shade under a bridge.

{ my mom, caleb's grandma is even doing it!}

{I love this picture my mom and my son}

{we caught around 10 that day}

Denver Zoo

We go to the Zoo several times a year, we love the Peacocks there and the way they call to each other. Next time we go back will be for the boo and the zoo for Halloween and then again for the Christmas lights in December. One of the better, cleaner zoos we have been too and you deff. get your moneys worth.

First Day of Second Grade

My son started Second grade yesterday at his new school, he's excited. He wanted to be all tuff and not admit he was excited until that morning he was jumping all around the house with a smile on his face. I based our entire move on this school, is that crazy? I wanted one of the better schools in this area and I think we may have gotten in. Its a cherry creek school district and they are known for great schools. His teacher is amazing, full of energy and so attenative. I can't wait to see what the year brings us and for Caleb to start making friends!
I had gotten so many compliments on the sign that I had gotten off of Etsy for Caleb top hold, from a talented shop called TeAmoCharlie

My Mom & Denver Botanical Gardens

(meet my mom}

I love my mom, she is the best and my best friend! She lives a state over, so we only get to see each other a few times a year. Caleb adores his grandma. Its tradition every time she visits we go on a ton of adventures. So many places here in Denver too do and see. This day I took her to Denver Botanic Gardens, one of my favorite places in Denver. They had a special artists glass sculptures on display by Chihuly.

You can seriously get lost in all the beauty here, its like a fairy tale dream. So many colors, plants and little hidden paths. Its surprising this is in the heart of Denver and you would never know.

Parker Days Festival

I have been to a lot of festivals and this one is by far our favorite to attend yearly, Parker Days here in Colorado. Tons of rides for kids, you buy the wrist band and you can ride whatever you want. Plus they have great music and amazing turkey legs. Caleb saved up with his own money this year to pay for his ticket, proud mama.

Jr. Golf Camp

Every since I can remember my son has loved Golf, starting at 4 years old he would just sit by the T.V. and watch the golf channel for hours. So this year, I decided to enroll him in his first ever golfing camp. Let me tell you something, this kid is good and was one of the best in his group. I even had a few instructors approach me and comment on his swings. Who would have guessed, kids a natural. We have since gotten him his very own golfing glove, clubs and bag, tees etc. He likes to drive, that's his favorite. We will deff. be signing him back up next summer!
