The Wildlife Experience, Halloween

Our second year attending The Wildlife Experience's Treat Or Treat off the street, Halloween Program. This year was really cool because they had a bat specialist bring in two live bats and we were able to get pretty close to them. I also got to dress up, first time in 15 years! Boy did that feel great, why haven't I been doing this all along? Just now starting to live a little. So Caleb was Dracula and I was a witch. Day full of fun activities. Busy time of year!

Fall Walk

Every year I pack up my camera and go on a walk too sight see all the beautiful changing Colorado trees, so many beautiful colors. I guess they don't call it "Colorful Colorado" for nothing! Red's, Oranges, Purples, Yellows and so many more combos of changing colors. Its a artist's pallet really! I appreciate these things, I'm originally from Texas and I had never got to experience what it was like too see so many symphony's of clustered colors, what a sight for our eyes. I smile daily on my normal drive around town, it never gets old. So Caleb came with me on this run and we got some pictures!

Halloween Decor

Is it just me or does it seem like this year has FLOWN by?? I can still 'feel' last years Halloween. So Its decorating time, I love to decorate for different seasons. Halloween being one of my personal favorite. This was my first year to be decorating for just Caleb and I, a smaller place. Less room and less nooks and crannies to fill. Even with only having 600 sq feet, I made it all work and looks fantastic! Home is where the heart is and there are two here

Little stand by front door, top of my computer hutch and my sweet pea Caleb!

This is the coolest window cling I have seen, its massive! Dollar tree 1$

I decorated the outside of my second floor porch with lantern, , pumpkins, streamers, solar light pumpkins and planter sticks. Front of door has this table by it, just need a small pumpkin for the top!

Headed to the mountains...

Its that time of year here in Colorado, where the changing of the seasons has begun. Trees are starting to change colors, the temperatures are cooling off. I have lived here in Colorado for over six years now and never seen the Aspen trees in the mountains, I had heard it was a sight to see. So I did some Internet re-search and found a special spot up in the mountains called "Georgetown Railroad" Its a train that takes you 600+ feet off the ground and is one hour long.
Surrounding the train ride are Aspen trees.

So I booked our open cabin seats over the week and we went this last Saturday. It was a long and winding trip up the mountains. We enjoyed our ride, some Aspens were changing colors. Its different, they are in large clusters all over the mountains and look like what I keep saying "veins" trailing down. Pretty neat, Caleb was over the moon about the whole train ride itself and was peering over the edge in complete silence {taking it all in}. After we visited some of the local small shops and had some ice cream and headed home! I seriously can't get enough of this time of year. I start our many fall festivities in October and is always a fun filled month for us

Craw fishing

I think I like this more than my son. Craw fishing, is so fun. I grew up down south doing this in the front of our yard. We lived near a lake and there was a small creek that ran along in front of everyone's yard {ours included} and I would fish them out and mess with them. So my son should enjoy it as well, Caleb more leery that I ever was, heck half the fun was being dangerous with them.
Today was Caleb's dads parenting day and we all got together to have some fun! There's a spot here in town that a river runs under a bridge and if you time it right there's no water under the bridge but on both sides of the front and back is surrounded by water. So we stay under the bridge and crawfish. This is our second year doing it and we caught double than last year, no we don't eat them. We catch and release.

How does one crawfish you ask? Easy:

1. purchase a few nets { I got ours at dollar general}
2. get some twine/thread etc. something to tie a hotdog with
3. purchase package of cheapo .99 cents hot dogs
4. find a nice water spot, they like warmer streams
5. tie a cut piece of hotdog on a string them tie to a stick and dangle it in the water.

It was funny this year we didn't use the nets too much, the poor critters were so hungry they latched on to the dog and we lifted them out of the water still eating the hotdogs on the stick! This was a summer activity that was on out bucket lit D O N E !
