This is our second year to do the insect lore "live butterfly's" habitat. Caleb loves it, this year we had double the butterflies. You receive the caterpillars in the mail in a cup and then they hang themselves upside down and you move them to the netted home. From there it takes a week or so for them to start hatching out. Its the neatest thing to witness one coming out. But they do it so fast you have to keep checking back once the first one hatches.

Wow, this is awesome. I've never heard of such a kit before. Amazing photo of the butterfly on your hand!
ReplyDeleteI remember your post about this last year. My son's school did this, but it was right before their break, and they missed all the hatching. =(
ReplyDeleteWe should get one of these kits, because they look so fun.

very cool!
ReplyDeleteI've never raised them this way at home.
I went to a butterfly farm on St. Maarten and saw some coming out of their cocoons.
I posted on butterflies today, too!
That is really neat! I've never heard of a kit like that, it would be really fun to have.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I've always wanted to do this. Perhaps when the little one is a little older.
